Has Gratitude lost its meaning??

16/3/2017

“Gratitude opened my eyes to a new way of seeing the world. By making gratitude a daily prayer: Thank you, life; Thank you, life I learned to trust in life again. I felt lovable again, and I began to see that life really does love me”

From Life Loves You by Louise Hay and Robert Holden
It came to me this week that some phrases get used so much that they start to lose their meaning. At the time I was doing an exercise about gratitude, and realised that I’d got into the habit of tuning out when I heard “attitude of gratitude” and “gratitude journal”.

You might think that’s a bit of a confession for a positivity coach, but I appreciate experiences like that because they get me thinking! They get me to think about what WOULD get me tuned in to really engaging actively in gratitude?

“Now is the time for women to break the barriers of self- limitation."

"You can be far more than you ever dreamed possible.”

From Empowering Women by Louise L. Hay

Happy International Women’s Day! 8 March is the day when we celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. This years’ theme is “Be Bold for Change”.

Hang about! Why would we need to be bold? And what would it look like?  Isn’t that a bit out there???

The truth is, change usually feels freaky. It quite often requires courage – particularly when it comes to the roles that society gives us.

Being successful

“I think it’s our natural birthright to go from success to success all our life”  (Louise Hay)

What Louise is talking about is if we believe that we have something useful to offer the world and that we are capable, talented people able to succeed at whatever we do, we naturally experience enjoyment and satisfaction with our life. We naturally take committed steps in the direction of, have confidence in ourself and are free of the stress that inhibits our creativity and creative problem solving.  Or put another way, we have an inner environment that fosters success.

Emotions are your friends

On our journey to self-awareness, self–acceptance and self-love one of the impediments to positive changes taking root and flourishing in our life is where we have an accumulation of unexpressed emotions.

Each time we experience an emotion we either choose to acknowledge and express it, or to ignore and suppress it (or something in between). Our life can become ‘saturated’ with our unexpressed emotions, leaving no room for new ways of being to be internalised.

Losing the need for approval

Are you afraid of criticism???

A while back I was thinking… for as long as I can recall (we’re talking 30+ years here!) I had always got upset and defensive when it came to disagreements or anything that felt like criticism of me.  When I witnessed other people in these situations it really surprised me how much less they seemed to be affected compared to me. Friends or family who I sometimes talked to about it would say “you’ve just got to let it be water off a duck’s back” or “just be yourself” and “don’t take it personally”.  I wished I could have!  I had no idea how to change and be like that.

How is 'Heal Your Life' different from all the other self improvement stuff out there?

Heal your life
Good question! The core idea of Heal Your Life is that liking/loving yourself is part of the solution, REGARDLESS of the problem and what you want to change; and therefore teaching you how to like, love and accept yourself is a key part of what we do. That, and helping you discover and learn to listen to your inner wise self (the bit that always knows what's best for you).

Have you noticed how often we focus on the negative instead of the positive – specially when it comes to ourselves? Most of us continually walk around with a “must do better” message playing in our heads! Must do better financially!  Must do better with eating habits! Must do better with exercising! Must do better… Must do better… Must do better…!
